Dr. Saad Saad has 7 siblings who are each a success themselves. He is one of three surgeons in the family along with 4 engineers and a teacher. Born in Palestine, he graduated from the University of Cairo in 1971 with his medical degree. Despite coming from a poor family, he graduated as the salutatorian with honors. The pediatric surgeon was raised in Kuwait as a Palestinian refugee and traveled to England to complete his internship. After immigrating to the United States, he married his wife with whom he has 4 children. These children also excelled with two becoming surgeons as well as a lawyer and an ICU nurse.
The accomplished surgeon, Dr. Saad Saad, has completed thousands of pediatric surgeries and even developed his own new surgical procedures. He has volunteered his time performing surgeries without charge on impoverished children in Jerusalem during eight medical missions to the country.
In high school, Dr. Saad Saad considered becoming an engineer. After watching his two older engineer brothers working construction in the hot Kuwait summers, he realized he wanted to work somewhere with air conditioning. He became a surgeon to ensure he would almost always be working in an air-conditioned room.
Dr. Saad Saad was trained by Dr. H Biemann Othersen in Charleston, South Carolina. Through Othersen he learned to be kind, hard-working and to treat all children the same regardless of who they are or where they come from. He believes in treating each child as if it were his own during the trying time of a surgical procedure.
For the future, he is excited about how many chronic illnesses are affected, prevented, and treated based on genetics. The more research is done on the subject of genetics and chronic illness, the more results will be seen.
